Mercor is partnering with a leading AI research organization to engage professionals with advanced expertise in writing, editing, and presentation. This full-time opportunity invites accomplished writers, editors, and communication specialists to help train and refine cutting-edge AI systems that produce clear, engaging, and well-structured written content. Professionals in this role will shape how AI models learn to generate polished, audience-ready text that meets the highest standards of readability and narrative quality.
2. Key Responsibilities
- Use proprietary tools to label, annotate, and evaluate AI-generated text for clarity, flow, and engagement
- Critique and enhance writing quality across diverse genres and subject areas, focusing on structure, tone, and coherence
- Collaborate with technical teams to design and refine annotation frameworks that strengthen AI’s ability to craft superior written outputs
- Ensure editorial accuracy by maintaining consistency in grammar, phrasing, and style across varied writing tasks
- Contribute feedback and solutions to improve annotation tools, processes, and overall writing refinement systems
- Apply expert judgment to nuanced language, ensuring text meets both creative and professional standards
3. Ideal Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in English, Journalism, Communications, Linguistics, or a related field
- Demonstrated portfolio of published works such as articles, essays, reports, or books
- Proven ability to assess and refine text for readability, logic, and stylistic precision
- Exceptional attention to detail with strong editorial and analytical skills
- Experience working with reference materials, writing guides, and editorial standards
- Strong communication skills with the ability to provide constructive, detailed critiques
- Commitment to enhancing AI’s capacity for high-quality written expression
4. Preferred Qualifications
- Advanced experience in professional writing, editing, or publishing
- Previous work in editorial, content strategy, or creative communications roles
- Familiarity with digital editing tools and structured review processes
5. Work Environment
- Full-time position based in Palo Alto, CA, or fully remote
- On-site roles require presence five days per week; remote roles strong self-motivation
- Initial schedule: 9:00 a.m. – 5:30 p.m. PST for the first two weeks; then transition to your local timezone
- For remote professionals using a personal device, your computer must be a Chromebook, a Mac running macOS 11.0 or later, or a Windows 10 or newer system
- Reliable smartphone access required
- U.S.-based applicants must reside outside of Wyoming and Illinois

6. Compensation & Benefits
- Competitive pay ranging from $90,000 to $200,000 annually for U.S.-based professionals, depending on experience and location
